The ideas that stretch across my work allude to conceptions of beauty, transformation and the anthropomorphic. I have a compelling desire to collect things that inspire me to create narratives by way of the constructed image. I borrow from the traditional still life genre, and the extractions are put through a kind of distillation process this allows me to recognize a quality and question its relevance today. My subjects are chosen for their evocative, inherent properties, and my intention is to create the context by which I can redefine a thing, hence, exploring the boundaries between the fantastic illusion and reality. I manipulate light, form and structure to achieve a sense of volume and dimension, as well as produce an atmosphere of mystery and the sublime thus evoking the idea that there is a unifying force that permeates all things. I expose both the abject and the highly desirable, if only to reveal a world of contradictions and extremes, and ultimately, I am intrigued by the notion of life as a by-product of decay.
